In the year 1880, Burma came under the control of the British and then the work of extracting rubies from these mines started an English company named “Ruby Mines Limited”.

The fine quality rubies found in ancient times remained with the Burmese dynasty. In 1875, the king of Burma was forced to sell two fine rubies due to a lack of money. One of them was 37 carats and the other 47 carats. Later it was cut in London and now it is 32. 2 and 38. 3 carats. which were sold for 10,000 or 20,000 pounds.

Once a ruby weighing 40 carats was also found in Burma. It was made into 3 pieces. Two were carved into pieces of 70 and 45 carats, and the third piece, in its original form, was sold for ₹7,00,000 in Kolkata. A fine ruby of 18.5 carats was found once even during the company’s rule. Which was reduced to 11 carats and then sold for 7000 pounds. A 77-carat ruby found in 1899 was sold in India in 1904 for ₹4,00,000. In 1890 a ruby weighing 204 carats was discovered from Burma mines.
